Margaret (Peggy) Murphy
NAWIC Scholarship Award
In honor of an exceptional woman in construction.
MAC Construction is partnering with NAWIC Columbus to provide a $5,000 annual scholarship in memory of Margaret (Peggy) Murphy.

“I am quite fortunate to have spent my 38-year career in the construction industry on both the design and building sides. In that timeframe, I’ve had a front-row seat to witness so much growth and progress. While not too long ago, women in construction were more of an anomaly, a big part of the maturation of this industry has benefited from welcoming our sisters into vital roles throughout many areas of the industry.
It is an incredibly broad business that affords opportunity to so many skill sets and passions, and women have taken a natural place in this industry, bringing unique assets of effective communication, critical attention to detail, sharp technical knowledge, and keen business savvy.
Whether working in a skilled trade, leading a design team in the architecture or engineering fields, coordinating logistics and scheduling, managing millions of dollars and moving parts, or providing state-of-the-art materials and building systems, the construction industry has a place for women who want to contribute and lead in shaping our built environment.”
Peggy Murphy lived a beautiful life, abundant with love shared with her family and countless friends, woven together by the everyday activities of life caring for her home and family, and in different phases of a successful professional life in architecture and construction management.
Peggy received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Ohio State University and practiced for many years in the Design Studio. Her love for the art of construction and working with people who love to accomplish the difficult task of building complex projects, led her to spend the last twenty years “in the field” as a construction manager, working alongside so many valued professionals who became great friends along the way.
Peggy was a mentor to many along this journey, particularly when it came to helping women succeed in this profession. She was the recipient of so much great advice and concern for her own professional development, and desired to do the same for the generations of people who came after her. This did not go un-noticed by those who knew her.
This scholarship is intended to provide financial help to women entering the world of construction, construction management and architecture. The pathways for any of these careers are varied, but each requires education and training with qualified professionals, such that the possibility of
success is abundant!
While Peggy’s life story was cut short by cancer, her memory lives on by those who knew and loved her. If she could, she would be the first to congratulate you on becoming a part of her story, even as you make your own!
